WHAT WE SAY ABOUT RESPECT
"We want to build Respect and at the same time we want to discuss with key figures in the trade unions, on the left, in the Labour Party and across the progressive spectrum what initiatives might be taken to rally and unify our forces. There is a popular base for imaginative actions centred on raising the call for peace not war, unity not racism, justice not social division. We’d be all the stronger if you joined us."
GEORGE GALLOWAY MP
“I support the Respect Party because I believe in peace, justice and equality. I want an end to war and support the Palestinian people. We oppose all forms of discrimination based on race, gender, religious beliefs, national origin or citizenship and defend of the rights of refugees and asylum seekers. Protecting the environment must be a big issue for states and the people.”
ALI SHELMANI, Respect supporter
"I draw my strength, and my moral inspiration, from my Islamic faith. But in this struggle for peace, equality and justice I have met so many people who draw their inspiration from other sources, but who share the same commitment to ideals that have a universal appeal.
This unity, of people from many different backgrounds, is central to my vision for Respect."

SALMA YACOOB, Respect Councillor, Birmingham
"There are so many things that we on the left agree on that it seems
obvious that we should be organising together to help create positive
change. Respect is exciting because it has the potential to bring people
together- from different backgrounds, cultures and traditions - who share a desire for a different world - into an organisation where every voice is listened to and every member valued."
Joe Kisolo-Ssonko, voluntary sector mental health worker, Manchester.
“As a teacher I had high hopes in Labour when they were elected in 1997 but since the introduction of Academies (privatisation of schools), pay freezes and war in Iraq, I have lost hope in a party that used to stand up for working people. Respect have always taken up the causes of workers; they represent all those values Labour used to campaign over."
DEREK FRASER Vice President of Rochdale NUT (personal capacity)
